Lets learn how to double crochet stitch for 2 rows:
Double crochet is abbreviated (dc) (This is important to know for pattern reading)
Foundation chain: (Ch 30) or as you need. (Refer Crochet Learnings #5: Crochet foundation chain to learn how to make a foundation chain)
Make 3 more chain plus your foundation chain count (ch30+3) (Remember, we do + ch1 for SC stitch; +ch3 for DC stitch)
Step 1: Yarn over the hook (yo) and Insert your hook into the 4th chain from your hook which is last foundation chain.
Yarn over the hook (yo) and Pull through the chain. Now, there should be three loops on your hook
Step 2: Yarn over (yo) your hook and pull the yarn through first 2 loops or strings on your hook, leaving the 3 rd or last loop.
After you pull through first 2 loops , there will be 2 loops on your hook
Step 3: Yarn over the hook (yo) again and pull through the remaining 2 loops.
Your first double crochet is complete now.
Make sure to continue the exact same stitch pattern throughout your entire foundation chain.
SECOND ROW:
Step 1: Ch3 and turn your work ; For DC we should do ch 3 for all rows and consider this ch3 as 1 dc stitch; Also called as turning chain
Step 2: Yo and insert hook into the second stitch
Continue as before and complete as many rows you need.
Tips:
- Ch3 for DC stitch
- For every new rows: Ch3 and turn around; Consider Ch3 as 1 DC
This is the steps to remember to do DC stitch
ch30 + ch3, insert into 4th ch from hook
Yo pull through – leaves 3 loops on hook
yo pull through 2 loops – leaves 2 loops on hook
yo pull through 2 loops – leaves 1 loops on hook – DC stitch
