One of our favorite mutton recipe. Double cooked mutton fried or roasted with little onion, freshly grounded pepper cannot be beaten by any of other mutton recipes. This is way easy to make and delicious too. This recipe can be included in Keto diet, Paleo diet, Low carb High Fat version of any diet.
- Prep time – 10 mins
- Cook time – around 1 hour or more
- Serves – 2
Ingredients needed:
- Mutton meat – 350 gms
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Chili powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder – 1/4 tsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Water
- Whole pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Small onions/Shallots – 7 nos
- Pepper powder – 1 or 2 tsp
Method:
Step 1:
- Wash and clean the mutton
- In a pressure cooker: add mutton, little salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, garam masala powder, ginger garlic paste and little water (say 1 or 2 cup)
- Do not add more water, because we have to do this pepper mutton fry as a dry one
- Mix everything well and pressure cooker for 5 to 7 whistles
- And then simmer it for 10 minutes and switch off the flame
- Open the cooker once the pressure subsides. Mutton should have been cooked very soft and tender
- Transfer the cooker mutton to a bowl along with the cooked water/mutton stock
Step 2:
- In the same pan, add 2 tsp of oil, whole peppers and curry leaves
- Once splutters, add the cooked meat along with the water
- Cook it on a medium flame, until the water evaporates and mutton gets cooked in the stock
- Add freshly ground pepper powder; mix well
- Now simmer the flame and let it cook for another 10 minutes; so that the mutton gets nice pepper flavor. Take care not to burn it.
That’s it. Delicious Mutton Pepper fry is ready to eat with rice / Cauliflower rice!
Notes:
- Pressure cooker the mutton first and then cooked again with the stock. So that mutton will be cooked twice and will tender to eat
- Freshly ground pepper gives nice flavor to this recipe
