Nethili Meen Kulambu – Anchovy/ Smelt fish curry – With fish cleaning process

Among all the indian fishes, nethili / Smelt is a favorite fish for most of us. Because it tastes so good and you never get bored of it. We can make traditional kulambu or crispy fry out of it. I was so happy when this fish is available in US, that too a wild caught fresh fish.

Ingredients needed: 

  • Nethili meen / Smelt – 500 gms
  • Shallots – 250 gms
  • Tomato – 1
  • Green chili – 3
  • Tamarind – small lemon size
  • Chili powder – 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Gingely / Sesame oil
  • Cumin seeds powder – 1/2 tsp
