ONION PAKODA RECIPE | ONION PAKORA RECIPE – EASY RECIPE

Onion pakoda recipe is a very popular snack recipe which can be prepared in 10 – 20 minutes.  There are many variations in making pakodas, but this is my customized version with the readily available things. Let’s see how to make onion pakoda.

  • Prep Time: 10 mins
  • Cook Time: 20 mins
  • Serves: 2 – 4

Ingredients needed:

  • Onion big size – 2 nos (Chopped onions measuring 1 cup)
  • Gram flour/besan – 3/4 cup
  • Rice flour – 1/4 cup
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Asafetida – a pinch
  • Green chili – 1 finely chopped
  • Ginger – 2 inch finely chopped
  • Curry leaves – few finely chopped
  • Salt as needed
  • Oil as needed

Method :

  1. Slice Onions roughly in length wise.
  2. Take a mixing bowl, add chopped onions and salt; Mix well and keep it aside for 10 minutes. It will start leaving moisture /water
  3. After 10 minutes: Add turmeric powder, chili powder, fennel seeds, green chili, ginger, curry leaves, besan flour and rice flour, 2 tsp of hot oil and salt as needed
  4. Mix everything together. If needed, add 2 tbsp of water to mix; Mixture should be thick enough.
  5. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, when the oil is hot, put the onion mixture in a sprinkled way and deep fry in medium flame.
  6. Fry till golden color.

Serve hot as a coffee/tea time snack or as starter.

Note:

  1. Mixing 2 tsp of hot oil gives crispy pakoda and prevents sogginess.
  2. Don’t add more water to mix. It will not give crispy pakodas
  3. Adjust chili powder and green chilli
  4. If you don’t like, skip green chili, ginger and curry leaves.
  5. Rice flour should be half or less than besan flour

Easy, crispy and tasty Onion pakoda is ready.
