Vella Aval- Sweet Aval Recipe- Sweet Poha Recipe with Jaggery
This is a very simple snack or dessert prepared with aval and jaggery. I prefer to have this for our breakfast when we are in hurry and no time to cook. Also, You can give this to kids as after school snacks. It is filling and also nutritious. There are so many traditional recipes which are very healthy but are totally forgotten today.
Ingredients needed:
- Aval/Beaten rice -1 cup
- Jaggery- 3/4 cup shaved
- Grated coconut -1/3 cup
- Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp
- Cashew nuts-4-5 (optional)
- Ghee/clarified butter for frying cashewnuts -1 tsp
Method 1:
- Prep time – 10 mins
- Cook time -5 mins
- Serves – 2
- Rinse the aval/beaten rice couple of times and then drain the water. Let it sit for 5 minutes
- .Heat ¼ cup water and dissolve jaggery completely. Filter the impurities. We don’t require any string consistency for this.
- Pour it to the aval. Add cardamom powder, grated coconut and mix well
- Optional: Heat a tsp of ghee and fry the cashew nuts until golden brown. Add it to the aval mixture.
Method 2: (Easy method)
- Prep time – 5 mins
- Cook time -5 mins
- Serves – 2
- Rinse the aval/beaten rice couple of times using hot water (Not boil water) and then drain the water. If you touch the aval/beaten rice, it will be warm now. You can also Microwave it for 1 minute.
- Add Organic powdered jaggery, cardamom powder, grated coconut. Mix well and Serve.
Quick and healthy breakfast /snacks/dessert is now ready.
Notes:
- You can make it more rich by adding ghee, fried cashews, nuts and raisins.
- I have used thin variety poha. So, cooking time is very less.
- Adding salt will enhance the sweetness.
